Lots of Progress

Tracey has been at the site for the past three days to work with Tony on details. She also met with David Fleming, our HVAC subcontractor and representatives from Daikin who will be supplying the mini-splits.

It has been a whirlwind of activity this week. The roof sheathing was finished yesterday and Mark Alarcon and his crew were on site this morning to install the ice and water shield. The roof is now watertight so the structure should stay pretty dry while the trades are roughing in the plumbing, electric and HVAC.

Mark Miller from Dependable Plumbing was also on site today to review the plumbing plan with Tracey and start the rough in.

Tony and his crew worked all weekend to make up for lost time. I'm blown away by the progress over the last four days. We're ready for windows!

The recent snow storms put a halt to construction for the past few days, but Tony and his team were back on the site yesterday and made a lot of progress. The rafters are in over the Great Room and it's starting to look like a house!

It's been raining the past couple of days. Seems like there is never good weather in Georgia! But framing has started ... the foyer deck is in nad the first floor walls are going up.

Winter Travel Trifecta

We made three road trips to Georgia this fall and winter and we managed to hit three winter storms: Cleon, Dion and Leon. I've decided to call this the 2014 Winter Travel Trifecta!

Fortunately, we did not get caught in the massive gridlock down in Atlanta during Leon.

Backfill - Moving Big Rocks

We drove down to Georgia last Sunday to inspect progress and supervise the backfill. We have a lot of rock that we're using to create natural retaining walls around the house.

Bobby does some pretty amazing work with the track hoe.

Someday, this will be a spot for campfires by the cliff.

Tuesday was the beggining of "Snow-megeddon" in Georgia so we decided to call it quits around 11:00 AM and get off the mountain.

Temperature Sensors - Part II

As I mentioned in a previous post, we are embedding temperature sensors in the concrete floors so we can measure the heating from the sun and the effects of thermal mass. The crew installed 11 sensors in the upper slab before pouring the concrete. We now have 7 sensors in the basement slab and 11 sensors in the main floor slab.

When the framing is complete we will install additional sensors in the ceilings and roof.

The first floor sensors go through the metal deck and will get routed through the basement ceilng.

The basement sensors go through the concrete floor and will be routed up through the basement walls.

Suspended Slab - Part III

The suspended slab is complete and it looks really good.

The only problem that I noticed with the steel framing system is that the basement is "loud". Hopefully the sound will be a little more subdued when we put some drywall on the basement ceiling.
