The idiocy within the Biden Cabinet seems to be limitless. Anti-Energy Secretary Granholm has gone on record stating that the United States Military should switch to all electric vehicles by 2030.

I suppose that every Jeep will be equipped with a 400-mile extension cord. Or maybe, 2,000 mules with solar panels.

I know, it sounds too crazy to be true. Even a Biden appointee can't be THAT dumb... right? Well, here ya go.

The Rational Prepper - Victory Garden Complete!

The neoTerra Victory Garden is complete! YAY!

In the last update, the containers were all in place and filled. All that remained was installation of an electric fence to keep Bambi and Yogi out of the garden.

I purchased 18 5-foot steel T-Posts from Tractor Supply and mounted those to the containers. (For the city folks out there... Tractor Supply doesn't actually sell tractors.. but they sell all sorts of awesome supplies for farm and garden).

The electric fencing must be insulated from the steel posts. I found these awesome insulators called Lock Jawz. They can snap onto the T-Posts at several different angles to make it easy to go around corners. Mounting two insulators back-to-back made it easy to tie off the fencing at the ends.

I used 2-inch x 4-inch welded wire mesh for the fence itself. This should be able to keep baby velociraptors out!

The Rational Prepper - Canning Beef Stew

As a rational prepper, I'm not preparing for a Zombie Apocalypse... BUT I am preparing for continued Bidenflation and possible shortages of beef and chicken later this year. Since we don't have a giant freezer, I've been slowly learning how to can.

I purchased a chuck roast on sale and, in this post, I'm pressure canning beef stew with potatoes, carrots, onions and beef broth.

I'll be doing a 'raw pack' so the veggies don't turn to mush.

The Presto Digital Canner only holds 5 quarts so I'm making about 10 servings. I really like this canner... it has a couple of extra steps, but once it finishes venting the rest of the process is automatic and I can walk away.

I peeled and chopped:

8 cups of red potatoes
6 cups of carrots
2 medium yellow onions

I cut 4 lbs of chuck roast into 1 inch cubes and discarded most of the fat. I also made two quarts of beef broth using Better Than Bouillon. (Note the very sharp, pointy kitchen knife I used in defiance of British law. I'm sure glad we sent the Brits packing back in 1783).

I chopped way too many veggies so I'll have to tweak the amounts next time.

Although I'm doing a 'raw pack' I decided to brown the beef to give it better color.

I layered the jars with beef, potatoes, carrots and onions, and then filled the jars with boiling broth... leaving 1 inch of headspace. I'm happy to report that all 5 quarts sealed properly... it's only the second time I've had 100% success!

The Rational Prepper - Victory Garden Update

I have all four containers installed and filled. I used all 10 yards of top soil and I'm going to need a lot more :-(

The concrete piers for the northwest (final) container are really high. I use a solid concrete block for the base, a hollow block in the middle and another solid block on top to support the container. The blocks are glued together with Gorilla Ultimate Adhesive, which is actually better than conventional mortar.

I poured two concrete blocks to mount the entry gate. I was surprised that each block took about 40 lbs of concrete. The gate is screwed to the concrete pads with Tapcon anchors.

Some stepping stones and pea gravel complete the entry.

The next step is to order more dirt to back fill the sides where the piers are exposed. Then I can install the electric fence to keep Yogi and Bambi out. I'm in the home stretch!

Voting With Their Feet

It's a dismal rain day and I'm not working on the neoTerra Victory Garden (which reminds me that I owe y'all a progress report).

Today I'm catching up on the collapse of Western civilization.

Domestic Migration - The Book Of Exodus
The exodus from Democrat-run cities and states is accelerating.

The amusing graphic below highlights the flight from the two worst states to the two best states. California lost over 500,000 people between 2020 and 2022... and New York lost even more!

It shows that when voting at the ballot box no longer works people will begin voting with their feet.

The following graphic, which shows domestic migration by county, is even more interesting. It clearly shows that even in states with a massive population influx, the Democrat-run cities are being hollowed-out.

Florida and Texas are prime examples. Although each state has had a massive increase in population, cities like Miami, Houston and Dallas are being drained. There is a similar trend in many other cities like Atlanta, Memphis and Birmingham.

A few states are so badly run (New York, California, Illinois and Louisiana) that even the rural areas are shrinking.

Illegal Migration - Contemporary Colonizers
While the Administration has committed more than $112 BILLION to defending Ukrainian sovereignty it has totally neglected the invasion taking place at our Southern border. It is estimated that there are now more than 15 MILLION illegals residing in the United States. Unfortunately, I can't show their migration patterns because our incompetent government can't keep track of people who don't exist.

To put this in perspective, the 2020 Census (updated for 2022) shows that indigenous people comprise about 1.3% of our total population of roughly 333 Million. How dare the Progressives refer to my legal immigrant ancestors as 'colonizers' while they allow this travesty to continue!!

Dangerous Times
Unfortunately the Progressive Urban Socialists are like locusts. When they flee the shitholes they created many still cling to their failed Progressive policies.

My hope is that the majority of the folks fleeing Blue territory are decent people fed up with spiraling crime, spiraling taxes and unfair woke agendas. We need more honest, rational people to hold the line.

The End Of Femininity

I avoid writing about LGBTQ-blah-blah because I simply don't care who an adult chooses to sleep with, how they dress or what they do with their own body. It's none of my business.

However, a few recent events reveal the extreme hypocrisy of elitist Democrats so I am compelled to call bullshit for what it is.

Femininity
The meme shown below illustrates two mind-sets that I consider demeaning to women (and I do, indeed, know what a woman is). It's not clear to me which image is more unflattering... a woman subordinating herself before a man-dressed-as-a-man OR a woman (dressed in a suit and pants for effect) pandering herself before a man-dressed-as-a-woman. It seems that feminism has gone full-circle and has destroyed everything good and beautiful about femininity in the process.

Masculinity
On the flip side we have the relentless attack on 'toxic masculinity'.

It seems ironic and hypocritical that elite Progressive females attack masculine males and then celebrate females who subject themselves to hormones and irreversible surgery to become 'men'. Shouldn't they simply reject masculinity in BOTH cases??

Terrible Testosterone
Although I generally don't care what someone does with their own body, the recent shooting in Nashville makes me wonder if society should prohibit females from transitioning to men.

For those of you who have been living under a blanket of main-stream media, Audrey Hale became Aiden and then went on a rampage and shot up a Christian grammar school. ABC, for example, avoids any mention that she/he/it was trans. abcnews.go.com/US/nashville-shooter-audrey-hale/story?id=98166039

Trans social media is outraged and describes Hale as the victim rather than a mentally disturbed killer !!

I propose a humble solution... perhaps testosterone is just too powerful and should never be given to anyone born without a Y chromosome. Perhaps that suggestion makes me a toxic male fascist. But, at least I know how to manage testosterone.
